Reading Book Program
Older children have a special place in our classroom where they keep books that they are learning how to read. Each child keeps 4-6 books at a time and trades in books for new ones when they master reading old ones. Once your child is really comfortable with a book, it will be sent home so that they can read it to you!
Your child may have practiced the book so much that it is memorized. That’s fine. It just means that your child worked very hard at that particular book. Is your child looking at the picture before reading? Great! That means that your child is using context clues, something that all good readers do. If your child makes a mistake, don’t make it a big deal. But make a huge deal about the fact that your child can read a book. Celebrate your child’s success!
The book that your child can read will be sent home in a special bag. The book and the bag must be returned within a week of it being sent home. If the book or the bag is lost, the cost is $100 each book to replace or $50 to replace the bag.
Additional ways to support literacy development:
There will be a fee of $100 pesos for a lost book or a lost bag so that we can replace the lost item.
